How to Choose a Domain Name
->
Choosing a domain name for your website can be so frustrating sometimes. Your domain name should consider your main idea for the website meaning it should describe your website in some what manner. For example, if you have a website about soccer, don´t name it Hockey. :) I know that example was a little confusing but you should get the main idea.
You can check out my other article How to Choose a Good Domain Name to decide your domain name. If you are making a portal type of a website, let’s say its about hamsters again
You should choose a domain name like hamster-world.com so it considers anything about hamsters. If you choose a domain name like hamster-types.com you can not post information other than hamster types. Of course you can but it wouldn’t be logical. When a visitor writes a keyword into a keyword and your website shows up, it does not mean that visitor will come to your website, but if you have a good domain name and it makes sense what the visitor is searching for, than you have an advantage compare to other websites.

How to choose your websites domain name:
- It should be something that goes with your website topic.
- You should make it short, if you can’t then but some hypens-to-make-it-understandable
- Make it something understandable. Is your visitors going to remember it ?
- Make it clear, most of the times affliate programs such as Adsense displays ads according to your domain name and content.
Key Point: If your website is about hamsters, I recommend you that you don’t get hamsters.com instead get what its called brandable domain just like syrian-hamster.com
What extensions should I use ?
Really it does not matter. Whatever you are comfortable with is just fine because the search engine don’t care about the extensions most of the time. But DOT COM domains are much more likely to be remembered by the returning visitors of your site, besides everybody likes DOT COM domains better.
